German carmaker Audi has produced its 12 millionth engine at its 13 year-old manufacturing plant in western Hungary, Audi announced in a statement Wednesday.

Engine number 12,000,000 - a V6, 3.2 liter, 255 horsepower injection engine - will be transported to an assembly plant in Neckarsulm, Germany, where it will be used in the Audi A6 automobile range, said Audi. Production of the V6 engines, which are used in Audi's A4, A6 and A8 models, was started at Audi's plant in the western Hungarian town of Gyor in 2004.
So far the plant has produced almost 160,000 of the V6 engines and has a daily capacity of 350. Last year the plant produced a total of nearly 1.7 million engines, up 14% on 2004.
Other engine models produced in Gyor include Audi's 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines, as well as a ten-cylinder engine brought to Gyor in a EUR 2.25 mln investment earlier in the year. The 4-cylinder engine has the greatest share of production.
