Total guest nights were up 10.4% in the first three months to 2.7 million, while the number of guest nights rose 13.1% in March alone.
Foreign guest nights were up 14% to 1.4 million during the first three months, while the number of foreign arrivals rose 18.4% to 493,000. The increase in guest nights was led by four- and five-star hotels, as well as wellness and spa hotels.
A regional breakdown of data shows that guest nights were up 18–22% in central Hungary and central Transdanubia, while northern Hungary saw growth of 10%. Growth in the southern and western Transdanubia region was more modest, between 3–5%. The number of guest nights was slightly down or stagnating in the northern and southern Plains regions.
In all, average hotel occupancy in January–March was 36.1%, roughly one percentage point higher than a year earlier, while occupancy was 43.6% in March alone. Average occupancy was highest at spa hotels in the first quarter, at 51.3%.
