"The market closed a very successful year," MKME president Julian Tzvetkov said, adding that growth was most dynamic in the number of transactions under the value of EUR 2.5 million. However, there was a "gaping hole" regarding transactions in the range of EUR 2.5-5 million, even though there are many potential Hungarian target companies in that range, according to Tzvetkov.
In all, there were 22 transactions valued less than EUR 1 million, 11 in the range of EUR 1-2.5 million, just one in the range of EUR 2.5-5 million, five in the value of EUR 5-15 million, and two above EUR 15 million.
By target sector, the most transactions (21%) were carried out in the consumer goods sector, followed closely by the IT (20%), service (17%) and communications sectors. By transaction value, the communications sector was the most popular target for venture capital last year, with 23% of capital concentrated in the sector, followed by manufacturing (20%), services (18%) and consumer goods (15%).
