Hungarian gov't to stick to original VAT hike proposal after coalition partner's objections
The Hungarian government will revert to its original proposal to raise Hungary's 15% VAT rate to 20% following objections by junior coalition party SZDSZ to a new proposal floated Tuesday that would have raised the 15% rate to 17% and the default 20% rate to 23%, acting government spokesperson Zoltan J Gal told reporters Wednesday.

Hungary's MOL, Russian Gazprom plan extension to Blue Stream gas pipeline
Hungarian oil and gas company MOL and Russian gas giant Gazprom Wednesday signed an agreement to jointly prepare detailed plans for the extension of the Blue Stream gas pipeline, which now connects Russia and Turkey, in order to ensure secure supplies of gas to Central and Southeastern Europe - possibly making Hungary a gas distribution hub in the process.

Budapest Bank, the Hungarian unit of the American GE Money Bank group, on Wednesday inaugurated its new HUF 1 bln operations center in the city of Bekescsaba, in southeast Hungary, that will create over 500 jobs by the end of 2008.
