The number of unemployed also decreased by 75,000 over the previous three month period, to approximately 305,000. The unemployment rate was the same as the September–November period of 2004, however, total unemployment for the 2005 period was 44,000 higher than in 2004.
EU data for the mid-period in October shows unemployment at 7% in Hungary, 8.3% in the EU, and 7.5% in the old EU 15, all unchanged from the previous period, according to KSH.
Hungary's high unemployment rate among the 15-24 age group was practically unchanged at 19.5% in spite of recent government action aimed at easing entry-level employment. In 2004 youth unemployment stood at 16.2% for September-November.
The employment rate for the whole 15-64 age group showed no significant change at 46%, a similar level shown over the past two years. This compares to an average of around 63% in the EU 25.
