Internet penetration varied significantly based on the size of company. Practically all large companies (those with more than 250 employees) and SMEs (more than 50 employees) had Internet access in the period. This compared to only 75% of microenterprises, businesses defined as those with 5-9 employees.
By sector, Internet penetration was highest in the financial sector (94%), but significantly lower in tourism (57%), education, health and other services (65%), and agriculture and fisheries (71%).
GKI's e-economy index, showing the attitudes and expectations of firms regarding the Internet and e-applications, has continued to rise since the third quarter of 2004. This is despite deterioration in GKI's overall business confidence index in the first two quarters of 2005.
