The Hungarian government is recommending a rise in gross wages of 3.5-4% across the economy in 2006, and foresees a corresponding increase in real wages next year, labor minister Gabor Csizmar said at the first round of wage talks at the tri-partite National Interest Reconciliation Council (OET).

When determining desirable real wage rises, the government calculated with a 3.5-4% increase in GDP, 2% inflation, and an average 1.5% decrease in personal income tax, according to a statement by the Prime Minister's Office. The government is also committed to increasing employment by 0.5-1% next year.
Csizmar also informed the OET that the minimum wage would be set at HUF 61,700 per month, in line with the subsistence minimum. According to the government's proposal, this would rise 10% for jobs requiring secondary education and 20% for workers with a college or university diploma. Prime minister Ferenc Gyurcsany has said the minimum wage could rise to HUF 100,000 per month by 2010.
