The center, part of Elcoteq's strategy to establish regional administrations in each continent of operations, will oversee logistics, human resources, sales, accounting and R&D activities across the company's ten European manufacturing units.
The Budapest center will initially provide employment for skilled workers, Elcoteq said according to press reports.
The move coincides with a EUR 54 million investment started earlier this year in a project designed to increase capacity at Elcoteq's two manufacturing units in Pecs (southern Hungary). The developments, which are expected to be completed by mid-2008, will allow Elcoteq Hungary to produce components for telecommunication companies, said local managing director Anttii Pippo.
Pippo added that increased capacity will mean an extra 700 jobs in addition to the 5000 that Elcoteq currently employs in Pecs. The move will also raise the proportion of Elcoteq's Hungarian suppliers to 70%.
