The new "SAP Labs Hungary" will focus on developments in the field of Supply Chain Management (SCM) applications. The facility will be SAP's tenth R&D center worldwide and the third in Europe, in addition to already existing facilities in Walldorf (Germany), Palo Alto, Bangalore, Tokyo, Sophia Antipolis (France), Sofia, Montreal, Tel-Aviv and Shanghai.
Construction work on the lab began in February, when SAP started Hungarian operations with a staff of 50. Now the lab employs 100 and headcount is to increase to 300 by mid-2006, said SAP director Claus Heinrich.
Chairman and CEO of SAP Henning Kagermann added that for every job SAP creates in Hungary, a further ten are created in the economy at large.
Although Heinrich declined to reveal the exact value of the investment, government sources confirmed that the project was awarded a non-refundable grant in the scale of HUF 100 million.
